Secret Lair: Set Phasers to Superdrop UK Buyer Guide: Pick Individual Star Trek Drops or Chase the Spending Promo?
The most consequential detail in yesterday’s Star Trek Secret Lair announcement is the gap between choosing cards and qualifying for a bonus. Set Phasers to Superdrop launches on November 9. Wizards has revealed five drops, each advertised at $29.99 non-foil or $39.99 foil, alongside a foil Return of the Wildspeaker promo named “Transporter Boondoggle” for every $199.99 spent, while supplies last.[1]For a UK buyer, the sensible starting point is an individual shortlist. Expand it only when the extra cards justify the extra bill themselves.
There is also a reason to keep that shortlist provisional: a sixth drop remains unrevealed. Committing to an entire collection before its contents are known puts the spending target ahead of the product. With the sale still ahead, buyers can decide which revealed cards they want now, then revisit the basket when the remaining drop and regional checkout terms are available.
Five different reasons to buy one drop
These are fixed selections of named cards. The useful comparison is therefore the overlap with your decks and collection, rather than the number of packs you could open. Wizards’ contents lists make that comparison possible before checkout. All five revealed drops share the same advertised US prices, but their card counts and purposes differ considerably.[1]
| Drop | Confirmed contents | Buyer test |
|---|---|---|
| New Worlds | Ten basic lands: two each of Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain and Forest. | Choose for the landscapes and repeated use across decks. |
| Beam Me Up | Eerie Interlude, Momentary Blink, Essence Flux and Conjurer’s Closet; all reversible. | The focused choice for a buyer who already uses blink effects. |
| tlhIngan maH | Demand Answers, Relentless Assault, Seething Song, War’s Toll and Warstorm Surge; all reversible. | Check which of these five red cards belongs in an existing deck. |
| KHAAAAAAAAN | Wrath of the Skies, Commandeer, Illusionist’s Gambit, Buried Alive, Genesis Wave and Fracture. | Six named cards across several colours; count the ones you actually want. |
| Lower Decks | Inti, Kambal, Silas Renn, Thrasios and Weatherlight with Lower Decks names and artwork. | Choose for the characters or specific existing card identities. |
New Worlds is the clearest art-led purchase: ten basic lands with two copies of each land type. Count how many you would actually put into decks before treating the larger card count as better value. A buyer who wants a coordinated mana base may find repeated basics useful; someone seeking a single recognisable character has a different reason to look elsewhere. Neither preference requires buying the whole Superdrop.
Beam Me Up offers a narrower mechanical brief. Its four cards cover exile-and-return effects, with reversible treatments. For someone already playing those effects, checking existing copies gives a concrete shortlist. tlhIngan maH instead groups five red cards, including Relentless Assault and Warstorm Surge. The shared franchise does not make those two drops interchangeable purchases: look at the cards you would sleeve up, then decide whether the presentation earns a place in the budget.
Lower Decks is particularly worth reading by original card name. Tendi is Thrasios, Triton Hero; Rutherford is Silas Renn, Seeker Adept; the S.S. Cerritos is Weatherlight. KHAAAAAAAAN ranges from Commandeer to Genesis Wave and Fracture.[1] If only one card appeals, compare buying that exact printing separately once offers exist. A complete drop is convenient, but convenience has limited value when most of its contents would stay unused. No verified singles prices here establish which route will cost less.
What does the promo add to your bill?
The relevant number is the extra checkout spend above the basket you wanted before seeing Return of the Wildspeaker. That extra spending buys additional drops as well as a chance to qualify for the promo, so assess both together. If you would remove the added products when the promo disappears, their purchase depends on how much you personally value that one card. A spending reward does not establish its own resale value, and there is no verified resale valuation here to offset the bill.
Wizards’ announcement specifies one foil promo for every $199.99 spent and explicitly limits availability to remaining supplies. It also advertises free shipping on orders over $99, subject to store terms.[1] Those are dollar-denominated statements. UK buyers should check the regional qualifying amount, eligible subtotal and delivery charge before building a basket around either offer. A currency conversion alone does not confirm the UK promotion, tax treatment or final amount payable.
Foil preference deserves a separate decision. Choose the finish you want to own before checking whether the order qualifies for a reward. Moving to foil simply to increase the subtotal commits more cash to the same named cards. The announcement’s two finish prices give buyers a clear choice of presentation; they provide no evidence that the higher-priced finish will recover its premium on resale. A collector who actively prefers foil can justify that choice without relying on a future buyer.
Keep the sealed-product decision separate
A Star Trek fan seeking something to play immediately out of its box has another product category to consider. The main release includes ready-to-play Commander decks, whereas these Secret Lair drops are small selections of cards.[2] The tracked We Are the Borg Commander Deck has a snapshot best-listed price of £59.95; the Star Trek Bundle is recorded at £49.99.[4] These are UK retailer observations, separate from Secret Lair checkout prices.
The Bundle offers a route into opening the main set; the Commander deck supplies a constructed starting point. Neither qualifies a separate Secret Lair order for its spending promo. Decide first whether you want specific alternate-art cards, boosters, or a ready-made deck. Keeping those purposes clear prevents a themed shopping list from becoming an order for several products that serve the same limited hobby budget without serving the same need.

Across the Star Trek scope, the snapshot contains 15 products with listings, 82 listing rows and 18 distinct retailers. Listing-level availability is 5 in stock, 44 preorder and 33 out of stock, generated 28 Oct 2026, 08:50.[4] These counts describe tracked retailer offers, not Secret Lair inventory. An in-stock label ahead of the main set’s November 13 release warrants a dispatch check; it is not proof that a retailer can deliver the product early.

Google Trends data for Great Britain supplies no usable interest reading for October 28: the monitored terms included “mtg secret lair”, but the request returned a rate-limit challenge and no results.[3] There is consequently no measured search-interest increase to support a rush purchase. The practical deadline comes from the announced sale, while the buying case comes from the revealed contents.

The November 9 pre-queue opens at 8 a.m. Pacific, followed by the sale at 9 a.m. Pacific: 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively in the UK. Wizards randomly assigns positions to customers already in the pre-queue; later entrants join in checkout order. Adding products to a cart does not reserve them.[1] Save the address and payment details in advance, but also save a maximum spend and a ranked list of acceptable drops. That makes an unavailable first choice a decision you have already considered.
Buy an individual drop when its named cards and artwork justify the full delivered cost. Consider qualifying for the promo only when the confirmed regional terms fit a basket you already want, or when the extra contents and promo together merit the additional spending to you. Wait for the sixth reveal before deciding on a complete collection. For most selective buyers, a short list and a firm ceiling are more useful than a target subtotal chosen by the promotion.
